Yes. When we were first asked to design the bag, we were asked if we could make the product watertight. There are ways how to make the bags fully waterproof, however you would first of all need to consider various options.

To make the bags fully waterproof, various options need to be considered, and the cost savings/value addressed:

Cost - as soon as you start using Gore-Tex, a fully waterproof fabric the costs significantly increase.

Different fabric - alternative fabrics would need to be re-tested for the strict IEC conditions GE Energy have set for an approved transportation method.

GE are reluctant to approve any other transportation methods - it took three years to get this system approved, however, we are more than happy to work with any clients throughout this process.

How many modules are damaged by water if used correctly? - Our bags have been trialled on various offshore sites across the whole of the UK, and are often used in situations where huge waves hit off the bow of the boat.

After 18 months of trials, the main learning outcome was to explain that the hooking point on the bag needs to be closed during boat transfer journeys (the hooking strop/lifting sling can be in with the module) but the flap has to be closed.

There are between 4/5 layers of product between the module and the rain/sea at any time, and if the bag is sealed then feedback from customers are that it's waterproof enough.  That’s not to say that all customer requirements are the same, and we can 100% supply a fully waterproof bag, however we may need to remove the hooking point, change the fabric, and add certain processes to the manufacturer.

Zero damages - We have had no damages reported during the last two years.  This feedback is from one of our customers who track the warranty claims stringently.

This is a more complex question than you would first think.

No, due to the fact that the bag has been designed so it does not need to be load tested, this saves on additional costs which arise from LOLER regulations.

The bag can be stored for months if not years in the same location, and when the time comes for lifting, by using the lifting point on the actual delta module it removes the need to test the bags.

GE energy have confirmed that the approved lifting point on the module is approved for the full lifecycle of each module.

We have some customers who have added additional guide loops which allows the lifting slings to cradle the bag (like a load tested bag) during lifting operations. This method is used on the SiTSafe bag due to the lifting point not being approved.

We know that once our products have been used by end-users (technicians) they prefer our product to any hard case, original system.

This is due to the ease-of-use nature of the bags.  We worked closely with technicians from sites all over the UK and Europe to develop a system that is easier to use.  Burbo banks came to us originally, and from working with the technicians from Burbo, Grimsby, London Array and then Denmark, we are confident that the standard product is better.  The feedback from UK/European offshore sites utilising our products is that they are in agreement with this.
